TECH I (WATER AND/OR WASTEWATER COLLECTIONS) – OAHU
Observes, learns and assists in the maintenance, installation and repair of the water, wasterwater and/or distribution systems.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Essential: sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, repetitive arm/hand motions, bending/twisting, reaching, climbing, lifting/carrying pushing/pulling, manual dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking. Occasional: walking on steep slopes, kneeling, repetitive arm/hand motions, climbing stairs, lifting/carrying 70-80 lbs. Frequent: sitting, standing, walking, bending/twisting, reaching above, at and/or below shoulder level. Constantly: manual dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Exposed to dust, fumes, and liquids.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Learns and assists Tech II and III’s with emergency call-outs, routine maintenance and other requests.

Learns and assists with the removal and installation of new or replacement of electrical and mechanical equipment such a well pumps, booster pumps and chemical feed systems.

Observes and assists with the operations, maintenance and repair activities related to water systems including but not limited to water supply springs, wells, pumps, water catchments, storage systems and water filtration treatment plants.

Assists in conducting quality control checks upon completion of each job.

Assists with the daily operations and maintenance inspections such as checking chemical feed systems, water collection and storage sites, water filtration treatment plants, and facility distribution system components.

Observes and assists with water sampling of water wells and assists with chemical analysis.

Observes the Tech II and III’s with the collection of water samples and understands the process of sending water samples to certified laboratories for testing to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.

Assists in the preparation of weekly and monthly water consumption reports for subdivisions water committee.

Under assigned supervision, follows established policies and procedures in conducting service, installation and repair of equipment to ensure proper working order.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma, GED, or the equivalent of a GED.

Current valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.

Prior related work experience helpful.

Current Class I Distribution System Operator certification preferred or able to obtain within 1 year of employment.

Good written and oral communication skills.
